Statement of Beliefs

WE BELIEVE

The Bible is God’s written revelation to man.  It is verbally inspired in every word, and absolutely inerrant in the original documents.  We affirm the infallibility, sufficiency, and authority of Scripture.  (1 Peter 1:23-25; 2 Timothy 3:15-17; 1 Corinthians 2:13)

WE BELIEVE

In the Eternal Godhead who has revealed Himself as One God existing in Three Persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, distinguishable but indivisible, perfect in all His attributes- each equally deserving worship and obedience. (Genesis 1:26-27; Genesis 3:22; Matthew 1:18; Matthew 3:11; Matthew 4:1; Matthew 28:19; John 172 Corinthians 13:14).

WE BELIEVE

In the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and His personal return in power and glory. ( Luke 1:26-35; John 1:14-18; Isaiah 7:14; Isaiah 9:6)

WE BELIEVE

That the salvation of man, who is sinful and lost, is instantaneous and accomplished by the power of the Holy Spirit through the instrumentality of the Word of God when the repentant sinner—enabled by the Holy Spirit—responds in faith.  This salvation is wholly of God by grace on the basis of the redeeming work of Jesus Christ, the merit of His shed blood, and not on the basis of human merit or works.  (Ephesians 2:8,9; Hebrews 9:12,22; Romans 5:11)

WE BELIEVE

In the Spirit-filled life.  As the supernatural and sovereign Agent in regeneration, the Holy Spirit indwells all believers placing them into the Body of Christ at the moment of salvation.  The Holy Spirit also baptizes, sanctifies, instructs, empowers them for service, and seals them unto the day of redemption. (Romans 12; 2 Cor. 6:14; 1 Corinthians 12-14; Acts 2:1-4)

WE BELIEVE

In the resurrection of both the saved and the unsaved; the saved unto the resurrection of life eternal with God and the unsaved unto the eternal separation from God. (John 5:29; Acts 24:15; Hebrews 6:2; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18)

WE BELIEVE

That all who put their faith in Jesus Christ are immediately placed by the Holy Spirit into one united spiritual Body, the Church, of which Christ is the head.  The purpose of the Church is to glorify God by building its members up in the faith, by instruction of the Word, by fellowship, by keeping the ordinances of water baptism and the Lord’s supper, and by advancing and communicating the gospel to the entire world.  The formation of the Church, the Body of Christ, began on the Day of Pentecost and will be completed at the coming of Christ for His own. (John 17; Acts 2; 1 Corinthians 11:28-32)

WE BELIEVE

That there is one true universal church, made up of genuine believers, but this one universal church is also composed of many local churches in given localities, these churches are under the sovereign Headship of the Lord Jesus Christ, exercising autonomous government under Him, administering all it’s local affairs and ministry, as well as the propagation of the Gospel (Acts 15:22; Matthew 16:18; Matthew 18:15-20).

WE BELIEVE

That the term “marriage” has only one meaning and that is marriage sanctioned by God which joins one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union, as delineated in Scripture. That God intends sexual intimacy to only occur between a man and a woman who are married to each other. (Matthew 5:32; Matthew 10:35; Matthew 22:35; Romans 7:2; 1 Peter 3:1; 1 Peter 3:7)

WE BELIEVE

That God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of a marriage between a man and a woman and that any form of sexual immorality, such as adultery, fornication, homosexuality, bisexual conduct, bestiality, incest, pornography or any attempt to change one’s sex, or disagreement with one’s biological sex is sinful and offensive to God. (Romans 1:20-32; 1 Cor. 6:9) (not included is rare “selective” sex surgery when one is born with both male and female organs)

WE BELIEVE

That in order to preserve the function and integrity of the church as the local Body of Christ, and to provide a biblical role model to the church members and the community, it is imperative that all persons employed by the Church of Saginaw in any capacity, or who serve as volunteers, should abide by and agree to this Statement on Marriage and Sexuality and conduct themselves accordingly.

WE BELIEVE

That God offers redemption and restoration to all who confess and forsake their sin, seeking His mercy and forgiveness through Jesus Christ. That every person must be afforded compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity. (Matthew 4:17; Matthew 9:13; Matthew 18:3; Mark 1:15; 1 Corinthians 6:9-11)

WE BELIEVE

That hateful and harassing behavior or attitudes directed toward any individual are to be repudiated and are not held in agreement with Scripture nor the doctrines of the Church. (Luke 10:27; Mark 12:30)

WE BELIEVE

That human life begins at the moment of conception and the unborn child is a living human being. (Job 3:16; Psalm 51:5; Psalm 139:14-16; Isaiah 44:24; Isaiah 49:1,5; Jeremiah 1:5; Jeremiah 20:15-18; Luke 1:44).
